Though this is coming late, but i believe it better late than never
Nigeria’s leading online retailer Jumia organized a Tech Blogger Roundtable event on the 14th of May 2015 and it was without doubt the Biggest gathering of experts in the Nigerian mobile market.
The event, anchored by Bertille Guitton, Head of Communication Jumia, had in attendance big wigs from both the Mobile manufacturing business and the Tech blogging world! Blogger attendees included Muyiwa – TechCabal, Wale – Geek.ng, Olabode – JustNaira, Muyiwa – Techpoint, Elvis – BestMobs, Ige – Ebimablog, Taslim – OgbongeBlog, Ejura – ConnectNigeria, Abiodun – Tech360Ng, Adewale – TechCityNg, Oscar – Oscarmini, Elroy – MobilityArena, Babanature – OneNaijaBlog, Tobi – MissTechy, Kelvin – AndroidNigeria, Sanusi –TechSuplex, Emmanuel – MyTechPortal, Aroloye – LowkeyTech, Ayoola – StevenBergy and Olatunde – BusinessCabal.
The passion for mobile phones and technology was very evident in the room right from the opening address made by Jonathan Doerr, Managing Director Jumia Nigeria, to the engaging, enlightening and excellent conversation that ensued. The bloggers had the representatives of the mobile brands (Samsung, LG, Innjoo, Infinix, Tecno and Lenovo) on their toes as they questioned them on topics which spanned from operating system updates, priorities, affordability, expectations and more!
Recapping the flow of events, a very insightful mobile phone infographic was revealed, reflected on, reviewed and then ultimately well received. Some facts derived included the fact that battery life was the number priority phone users considered while buying a phone and a Powerbank was also the most important mobile phone accessory.
It was also highlighted that Nigeria was one of the most important mobile markets in the world as phone manufacturers have proceeded to make mobile phones specifically for the everyday Nigerian. Evidence to back up this fact includes the 4000mah battery of the Infinix Hot Note, the music centric Tecno boom J7 with over 2000 preloaded foreign and Nigerian songs, select Samsung phone models which come preinstalled with over 15,000 local and international ebooks to boost literacy, LG being the first to produce dual sim phones for Nigerians, Innjoo’s affordable price policy and Lenovo’s focus, both hardware and software wise, to continuously enhance the battery life of their phone models.
Ige of Ebimablog stated, ‘’it was a brilliant event. It was also unprecedented being that it was the first of its kind in Nigeria. The turnout I must say was impressive and it was nice seeing my fellow tech bloggers from all across Nigeria. I think it is great that we stakeholders can all come together to share ideas and feedback. Jumia really is doing an excellent job’’
Camille Marotta, the Marketing Manager of Infinix also stated, ‘’This event was a great initiative from the Jumia team. I think it brings for everybody a better understanding of Nigerian market and lets attendees know more about manufacturer purposes and future actions. I believe that it has been a great success and that in the near future more gathering will be welcome’’.
