Box Content

Nothing about the Doogee Valencia 2 Y100 is stylish; from the packaging down to the phone itself, everything screams simplicity. The phone is packaged in a small rectangular blue-black box with the Phones rear camera clearly flaunted on top of the box.
The box contents are simply and neatly arranged inside one compartment box , with the device on top and carefully cushioned against falls from all corners .Beneath the phone itself, the package contains a screen protector and a micro-fiber cloth for keeping that screen nice and shiny, a 1A A/C Adapter, a USB cable and a set of Doogee earphones .The packages also comes with a pouch for extra protection against falls.

The Doogee may not be anything close to been a stylish, stunning or premium device, but it clearly offers a solid design/build , and at first glance reminds me of the Infinix Hot , with the rounded back & sturdy build. The device feels & looks sturdy , tightly assembled and fits nicely when held as a unit, but the true state of the device is revealed when the rear cover and battery is taken off leaving you with a feather weight device .

The Doogee Valencia 2 Y100 pro maker did a pretty nice job at at giving the device a faux -metal finish which can obviously be taken for a brushed metal except on a closer look/examination.

The 5-inch IPS display dominates the front of the device. Below it are  three capacitive touch buttons without illumiantion and below that is the  bottom bezel that adds to the overall build & weight of the Doogee Valencia 2 y100 pro. Above the screen, you see the earpiece centrally placed   and flanked by the 8MP  front facing camera  and two proximity sensors.

The Two physical buttons on the doogee Valencia 2 Y100 pro – a power/lock button and a volume rocker are conveniently positioned on the right hand side of the phone. They are responsive and practically had no issues pressing them, but I have handled phones with better response (at least the Infinix Hot is).

Turning to the left side of the device, we are greeted with a bare plastic side, but however gets busy at the top of the device where we have the 3.5mm headphone jack and a micro USB port while the bottom of the device houses just noise cancelling MIC.
Like the rest of the exterior, the back side of the Doogee Valencia 2 Y100 pro is purely plain with a non-protruding camera lens centrally placed and a LED flash below it.Moving down we have the DOOGEE branding inscribed just next to the loud speaker.

The Y100 pro’s rear cover is removable giving you access to the SIM card slots,Micro-SD slot and battery which is a nice move . My only gripe is that the rear cover is without SLOT  that can facilitate easy  removal,so opening the rear requires pulling a the corners of the rear cover.

Under the rear, there exist two slots for a standard and a micro SIM card , memory card slot and  a speaker at the bottom .

Overall, the doogee Valencia 2 Y100 got a solid build,it seems to be the type of device that can withstand lots of falls especially if it doesn’t involve falling with the screen face down.

The Display

My experience with the  Doogee Valencia 2 Y100 pro display left me with mixed feelings. It has a  5-inch 720p display that some times appears  crisp, vivid and with  striking imagery, but at some point appear to be a Monochrome display showing of  in blue and black colors.

The Cameras

The Doogee Valencia 2 Y100 Pro comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash, an impressive 8MP front-facing shooter. The photo quality of the 13MP cameras is quite encouraging, though isn’t  the best, color accuracy is average for  outdoor shoots and in well light environment, though at some points it produced image  that words not reminiscent of a 13MP camera, the camera did pretty well  with object tracking enabled.

One aspect of the Y100 pro camera yo may not enjoy is its indoor use,its a major flaw of the Doogee Valencia 2 y100 pro, though with abundant light you can get the best out of it.

Shots with the  front facing camera are not so encouraging, though it covers wide angle, but photos taken with it are always noisy without fine details. It has no voice capture, but gesture is present even though  find it difficult getting it to work.

One thing i find so uninteresting is that the volume rocker only responds as camera button when doubled tapped, this is unlike other Smartphones we have tested here in the past.

Doogee Valencia 2 Y100 Pro Battery

The doogee Valencia 2 Y100 boasts of a user removable battery of 2200mAh which doogee says has a rating of 2-days standby time, but i achieved straight 5 days of standby time before attaining the 8% mark. You may be able to get a day usage with a single charge if you are a heavy user, in my case i was able to squeeze out 7 hours out of the battery with heavy web browsing ,video streaming  and other tasks over Wifi.

Network and sim card

The Doogee Valencia 2 y100 pro is dual SIM/standby enabled, this simply mean two SIM cards can be used on the device and both SIM card will be active simultaneously. There is a micro SIM slot and a macro SIM sloth with both supporting 2G,  LTE (FDD-LTE 800/ 1800/ 2100/ 2600 MHz bands), 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS/a-GPS as connectivity options.4G option is only available to SIM slot 1.

Performance

The valencia 2 Y100 pro is powered by a  Mediatek MT6735p  chipset with a 32Bit   quad-core processors   clocked at 1.0GHz and 2GB. The phone phone performed well in virtually  all day to day tasks.Video streaming  was smooth, handled some games pretty well, but found it difficult starting  BB racing and some handful of other games.Generally the phone has no issue with increased temperature as it doesn’t unnecessarily  heat up .The Phone comes with 2GB  of RAM ,with only 1GB available and other used by the System  while about 12GB of the internal Memory is available out of the actual 16GB ROM.

The Y100 pro pulled a total of  20256 point placing it far below just below the Xiaomi MI 2.The Antutu tests indicates that the device perform better than 60% of devices in the general performance, with a poor game rating of 40% and an average battery performance with 50% rating.

 Operating System/Interface

The doogee Valencia 2 Y100 pro  comes pre-installed with Doogee’s own custom UI called DOOGEE OS  which is based on Android 5.1. Unlike most other Chinese manufacturers’ skins, the Y100 pro retained the  Android app drawer where all apps and icons resides. It comes with Smart gestures , Wake Gesture, 3 finger fast screenshot , Ultra effective power saving mode , Hotknot, PIP mode and Xender makes sharing easier

Our Verdict

The Doogee Valencia 2 y100 pro is a solid & sturdy device, with specs and features that isn’t out of place for a device of its price. If you don’t mind the Simple design and if you do not mind  using a relatively new brand, then it’s one of those smartphones you can buy on a budget. But this device would have been better pegged at 100$ .
